Your favorite Hiking Trails are open Every Day of the Year

On many hiking trails, hikers need not worry about getting lost because the trails are often marked with clear signs giving short explanations or story lines. Hikers wishing to journey longer hiking trails should be in good shape and have orienteering skills, as these can be quite a bit more challenging than day trip trails. On longer trails campfire sites are often far apart.

At mountain locations you can often mountain climb, raft, fish, ski and hike, or just plain relax in one of the hot springs, drinking in the beauty of the mountains. Mountaineering equipment such as ropes and spikes should also be taken on these longer walking trails. Expect the major down hills to be without consistent track and if mountain biking, expect to carry and walk your bike for considerable distances.

Visitors may experience the backcountry of the preserve through three new backcountry day hiking trails. During the main tour season (the last Saturday in April through the last Sunday in October), visitors may hike from 9 a.m. Visitor information leaflets, which include a map of the Refuge, may be picked up at information kiosks at Refuge entry points.

Canada's national parks are intended to preserve areas of unique eco-systems. The other types of parks are primarily for recreational purposes and to maintain wilderness reserves.

Hiking routes in the Dolomites are well maintained by local authorities and the trails themselves are well marked to prevent hikers getting lost. Mountain bikes are permitted on 6.5 miles of multi-use trails. Portions of many trails are wheelchair accessible with assistance to some degree.

The Nicolet has ten interpretive trail opportunities from short nature trail hikes to longer auto tours in areas of scenic, natural, or historic interest. Hikers and snowshoers are asked to be respectful of tracks set by skiers and hike to the side of the trail. Hikers must yield to horses/mules. Hiking clockwise reduces your chances of encountering horses/mules.
