Details matter - Know about your abilities and strengths, in extensive detail. Have good strategic examples on hand as to why people should choose you.
Words matter - Look at the political world and how successful a good speech writer can make a candidate. It's true - sometimes what it takes to be elected is being able to deliver a speech from a good speech writer. Tell people exactly what you have to offer. Be upfront. Have tact.
Cleverness matters - You have to be in the right places to make good job connections and meet people who decide important things. Offer If people with power don't know about you and your message, they'll definitely overlook you when it's time to hire somebody. Be out there and visible all the time.
Persistence matters - Do these things every day. You must keep your attention and energy high. I'm not saying that you should spend more time working like a dog at your computer. Get out there and start on your strategic, planned-out job hunt. This is what sets followers apart from real leaders.
Don't just apply to any old job or talk to any old person out of desperation; do the opposite. Do not let frustration grow into desperation. Use that frustration, instead, to come up with strategies. Use the stress you have to stress positive things.
What is it that shows you off best? What kinds of positions have made you grow and prosper? In what areas are you the clear leader in skill? Figure out what skills you've acquired, and what dimensions they have. Next, make a list of companies and businesses that are a good fit with your abilities. You can't just wait for online job postings. You certainly want to surf the web for companies whose job postings may be attractive to you. But don’t let it end there. Find the people who make decisions. Persuade them that you are the best candidate out there. When you do, they'll think about how your abilities can help them succeed.
What about narrow or old-fashioned careers? Then work on parallel tracks, but keep on targeting them. This means you should also research companies like your old one, but a bit different perhaps. Find this area, then use focused attacks on it.
What counts is strategy and tactics. You must find and lead your specific field. This means you need to make changes in thinking and word choice. Be persistent, though. Keep refining your list of targets and keep firing at them. Also, always keep in mind that details matter. Soon, you'll make those bull's eyes!
