I have once been on a trip to Poland. It was more than ten years ago and I had a particular aim to visit all the warsaw hotels. When I was in Poland in the fall of 1998, my first and last stop was Warsaw, the capital of Poland. Warsaw has a population of 1.5 million and had then about 1500 various venues to stay at. As a tourist and as a person whose hobby is to visit hotels, I wanted to stay in Warsaw in some five different hotels and visit about ten different hotels every day pretending that I am interested in booking a room. My stay in Warsaw was marked by some typical tourist observations and I still find the city very interesting. I couldn't believe how wersternized had the city become, only ten years after the fall of Communism (1989). When I looked at the skyscrapers, I saw typical american brand names like IBM, Goodyear and Marriott. The warsaw hotels really made a good impression on me, although I must admit that not every single hotel impressed me. There was one warsaw hotel that was really disgusting because of the typical communist looks, but even worse about that warsaw hotel was the fact that the service was appaling. To stay in Warsaw in that kind of hotel would be a nightmare – the person that handled the reception desk was disgusting – she even told me that I asked too many wuestions and that I was rude, when I simply wanted to know details about the room, the food and the menu.
But my opinion about that Warsaw hotel doesn't mean that I think bad about all the Poles. To tell the truth, I think that the people of Poland are extremely friendly and – what is very important for me personally - respectful with traditional manners. I admit that before I left to Poland I have heard that Poland is a backward country, but then I was truly amazed to see people doing business on mobile phones. It was pleasant to visit so many warsaw hotels and see that – even if the technology wasnt' state-of-art, the modernity was fastened there in the Capital. To stay in Warsaw and observe the changes in people's mentality was one of the most amazing emotional experiences in my life. It really made me think about the people, the history and the society. Even today, I am very happy that I had the chance to stay in Warsaw and see the changes that took place. Every warsaw hotel I visited made me think high of polish people. Well, except for that one warsaw hotel.
