US Health centres Successfully Test Revolutionary Barcode Systems

New barcode reader technology has been tested in hospitals in ,Texas, the system is designed to reduce volume of mistakes and mal-practice incidents across hospitals throughout the US.
Leading barcode system innovation; IntelliDOT developed this technology. They recently announced that they had finished its implementation of their brand new IntelliDOT Bedside Medication Administration across a network of hospitals across Waco, Texas. The device is will be placed beside the patients bed, it is battery powered and has a 12-hour battery life.
The barcode system is designed to be placed by the side of the patient’s bed, the unit has been designed to store key data about the patient and enable medical staff to simply view the medical records, blood type and personal details. Where it will help the most will be in refernce to to the reduction of over or incorrectly prescribed medication. Portable handheld barcode scanners can be carried by the nurses and allow them to view details about the patient immediately.
The intelliDOT systems will allow the medical staff to enter data into the barcode unit about the medical case, the data will then sync with to a central server, which allows the information on the barcode unit to be digitally updated. This system alone could digitise current patient records and medical case data allowing local GP’s to readily access records of their current patients.
Despite its revolutionary application, barcoding technology is currently used to retain differing types of data, however the systems needed to manage and update these style systems are very ingenious and IntelliDOT are experts in this field and must be applauded for their technology and research. Within the UK many health services are still utilising paper filling and paper records. The national health service in the UK are still utilising historical systems for patient data and prescribing medication within health centres and hospitals within the UK, however with systems like this having a sizable cash value it will be a long time before many hospitals and health services install a fully paperless system.
IntelliDOT will hopefully be applauded or given some recognition for their hard work on this barcode system, from a health and safety aspect alone the technology should help to save lives and help to prevent medical accidents, for many hospitals this should be worth the cash investment alone. Despite the innovation of such a piece of technology, unfortunately I imagine many organisations putting their money in other areas before spending their finances on a system such as this.
