Plastering is one of those trades where it looks easy to do, there are no rules saying you have to be qualified to do it and it can cost a lot of money to pay a tradesman to do it for you.
No doubt you have thought of trying to do plastering yourself to save money and either tried and made an unsightly mess of it or decided it was just too difficult.
It is possible to pick up the basic plastering skills on a short training course to get to a level where you can do your own DIY plastering at home, particularly if you just want to learn how to do the basics such as skimming walls, patching damaged plaster etc.
There are several independent companies that run plastering training courses that start from 1 week in duration and allow you to progress to learn more advanced skills by doing further training.
Typically you can expect to pay between £200 to £400 for a week's course in plastering which can very quickly pay for itself in savings from not having to pay someone to do the work.
If you find a plastering training course near to you and enjoy it sufficiently you may wish to carry on the training as it is a skill which always seems to be in demand. Plasterers' wages are amongst the highest in the building and construction industry.
