In the past, Elearning has made a great contribution in the field of education. It started in the mid-1980s by a number of institutions in the United States. The pioneer institutions include Western Behavioral Sciences Institute, Connected Education, New York Institute of Technology and New Jersey Institute of Technology. In order to organize these elearning institutes, an organization called Independent Student Media was established. As of 2003, there were millions of students who enrolled in e-learning institutes.
