Controlling Cholesterol
Because of the high fat diets that we consume these days, many people have problems with their cholesterol. If we monitored the amount of high fat content foods that we eat we 'd realize that we eat too much of the wrong things, That's why we should avoid fried foods and the greasy diets that we consume. Prevention is the key.
When it comes to cholesterol there are 3 parts, LDL (Bad Cholesterol), Triglycerides, and HDL ( good cholesterol). When you watch all three you reduce you chances of having a heart attack. You need to eat right and exercise, learn to manage your life to keep your LDL at a lower level, and eat in a way that brings the level of your HDL (good cholesterol) up.
LDL's is bad, we must learn to keep them down. The higher the levels the more likely you are to have heart disease. The 100 - 129 normal cholesterol range, the bad cholesterol 130-159 being borderline high. So lower is better.
Triglycerides is fat found in the blood, when we eat we get energy from the calories we consume. If you consume more calories than you burn you may have high triglycerides. your triglyceride levels should be below 150, triglycerides are reduced by omega 3 fatty acids from foods such as fish and flax seed oil. Being physically active is one of the best reducers of your triglycerides, that and a low fat diet.
HDL'S is good, The higher the better. the average HDL for men is 40 to 50 mg/dl. The average for women is 50 to 60 mg/dl. HDL's of over 60 reduces you risk of heart disease, people with high triglyceride levels usually have elevated cholesterol levels.
